2026 Campaign
Washington's transgender community is under attack. Here's what's at stake — and how to fight back.
Know the Threat
In 2026, opponents of transgender rights are attempting to use a ballot initiative to eliminate the anti-discrimination protections that Washington's transgender residents have relied upon since 2006.
These protections — enacted by the Washington State Legislature — prohibit discrimination against transgender people in public accommodations including restrooms, locker rooms, and other public spaces.
If the initiative succeeds, transgender Washingtonians would lose a foundational civil rights protection that allows them to navigate public life with safety and dignity.
