SEATTLE, WA — February 2026 — Gender Justice League Action (GJLA) today announced its formal launch as a Washington State 501(c)(4) social welfare organization dedicated to advancing the civil rights, dignity, and safety of Two-Spirit, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people, and women, in Washington State and nationally.
The organization launches in direct response to two 2026 ballot initiatives — IL26-001 and IL26-638 — that would force schools to out LGBTQ+ students, mandate invasive genital exams for girls in school sports, and restrict students' access to help. Both initiatives are expected to appear on the November 2026 ballot.
Year-One Campaign: No Hate in WA State
GJLA's first major initiative — No Hate in WA State — is a broad coalition campaign led alongside SEIU 775, ACLU of Washington, Washington Education Association, Pro-Choice Washington, GSBA, and UFCW 3000, with dozens of additional partner organizations across civil rights, healthcare, faith, education, labor, and business communities. The campaign's strategy includes deep canvassing operations, voter education, legislative advocacy, and grassroots fundraising.
"Washington has been a model for the country on transgender rights for nearly two decades," said Danni Askini, Chair of the GJLA Board of Directors and Executive Director of Gender Justice League. "We are not going to let that be taken away without a fight. Gender Justice League Action gives our movement every tool we need to win."
About Gender Justice League Action
Gender Justice League Action is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization founded in 2026. As a 501(c)(4), GJLA can engage in the full spectrum of civic advocacy — direct lobbying, ballot measure campaigns, candidate endorsements, voter education, and community organizing — without the restrictions that apply to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
GJLA is the advocacy and electoral partner of Gender Justice League, Washington State's leading transgender civil rights organization. The two organizations are legally independent, governed by separate boards, and maintain separate finances — united by a common mission and community.
